Dear Recruiters – Twitter can’t be used like LinkedIn or Facebook as LinkedIn

I have often come across Recruiters complaining that they don’t get resumes from Twitter or Facebook. When I tried to understand the real meaning behind this statement, they say “But we do get resumes from LinkedIn”. Dear Recruiters – Twitter can’t be used like LinkedIn or Facebook as LinkedIn. The point that I am trying to make is that Every Social Networking Platform has its unique style of working. Every Platform has its plus points. Confused already!!! Let me confuse you more :) Just Kidding.

Recruiters have been using LinkedIn religiously to tap the right talent. Some pay lakhs to get a Premium Recruiter Account and some use their Free Account. The bottom line is that they use it like a Job Portal. Well, there is nothing wrong in that. Some months back I had written a post on “Naukri, Monster, Dice are Job Portals. What about LinkedIn?“Some did agree that LinkedIn is turning into a Job Portal. Well, this post is not regarding it being a Job Portal or Not. This is about the mindset that we have created in our minds.

So coming back to the topic, we as recruiters are programmed to use some social platforms such as a Job Portal. Twitter is not a Job Portal nor is Facebook. Well, Facebook did make a pitch towards Social Graph, and we as recruiters have already started using our searches :) As mentioned earlier, we as recruiters need to understand that every other Social Networking Site does not function as a Job Portal.

Facebook_Twitter_LinkedInTwitter for example, is a great learning tool, where one can follow the greats of the Industry. One can share and learn best Industry Practices. One can participate is some amazing Twitter Chats and learn immense from the discussions. One can follow Leaders, connect with them and exchange notes too. Me not selling Twitter to Recruiters, but just trying to say that there is also a different side to Twitter. All you need to do is invest some quality time.

Self Learning is a key, and one can only grow if one is willing to learn. So Dear Recruiters, It’s my humble request, do use these channels for your self learning too. Don’t just try to enter a Boolean search string in every nook and corner.
