Are we ready for latest Social Media Trends?

Interesting title right. Many of you (Including me) )would say that we are just about to get into Social Recruiting, Learning, Employer Branding and you already talking about getting ready for the future? We are just exploring it, we are getting ready to adopt it, we are getting ready to embrace it. So hang on to the future, it can wait. But unfortunately Social Media will not wait for us. Social Media is all set to grow even with a more faster pace. So are we ready for latest Social Media Trends?

The reason for writing this post was that as per latest We are Social”  report, in the List of Most Active Users as expected FACEBOOK is at No 1, QQ at 2, QZONE at 3, WHATSAPP at 4, WECHAT at 5. So you must be wondering were is LinkedIn and Twitter. Right? Well they are at 7th and 8th position respectively. Before we get into the analysis part, lets look at numbers 2, 3 ,4 and 5.

QQ, is an instant messaging software service developed by Chinese company Tencent Holdings Limited. Qzone  is a social networking website, which was created by Tencent in 2005. WhatsApp Messenger is a proprietary, cross-platform instant messaging subscription service for smartphones. WeChat is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent in China. So as per the following examples, one common thing is that all of them expect QZONE are Instant Messaging platforms. Right? And LinkedIn and Twitter are and numbers 7 & 8 Respectively.

So what does this mean? Are we ready to this latest trend? Are we ready to adapt these platforms?  Some might still say that this is just a phase and all. For those, I just want to ask one question – “Do you spend more time on WhatsApp than on FB or Twitter or LinkedIn?” Me sure that 9/10 will say YES  :) So moving on, sometime back I had written couple of Posts related to WhatsApp – “Social Learning via WhatsApp!! Possible? and WhatsApp as Social Recruiting Tool!! You must be kidding!!! .

I would be putting my money on Job Portals when they might start adding WhatsApp Icon on Candidate Profiles. (With consent of candidates). And Recruiters can then directly approach the candidate on real time basis. That day is not far enough. So if this happens (Which I am sure it will) are we ready for this shift? Recruiters might say, Come on no Whatsapp, we are already getting so many messages on Whatsapp daily about Job Openings and all. Well, this is a trend that is being created from the candidates side, we can’t escape it. They want instant responses, replies, results. So what better platform than these real time platforms.

So are we ready for the new age messengers? Are we geared up to use it for Social Hiring /  Learning / Employer Branding?
